On December 6, 2023, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa presided over the Divine Liturgy and delivered the Divine Word at the Church of St. Nicholas in Alexandria’s Champ Cesair district. Alongside him, Metropolitans Panteleimon of Naucratis, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, and Germanos of Tamiathus, Head of the Holy Monastery of Saint Savvas in Alexandria, co-celebrated the Divine Liturgy.
Towards the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch performed a solemn memorial service dedicated to the souls of the crew of the destroyer “Adrias”. Notably, this vessel arrived at the port of Alexandria on December 6, 1943, with a missing bow, marking a significant historical event.
Following the liturgical service, a joyous gathering was held at the newly renovated Church’s monastic guest quarters known as “Archontariki”. Among the attendees were Mr. Ioannis Pyrgakis, Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Captain of the Navy Mr. Konstantinos Varouxis, the liaison officer of the Greek Navy with the corresponding Egyptian authority, teachers, and devoted members of the community.
