Patriarch of Moscow Kirill congratulated the new Patriarch of Serbia by telephone on his election, as it became known with an announcement of the Russian Orthodox Church.
In particular, it is mentioned that “on February 18, Patriarch of Moscow Kirill and All Russia had a telephone conversation with Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb and Ljubljana, who was elected to the Patriarchal Throne by the Hierarchical Synod on the same day in the Church of St. Savva in Belgrade.
The primate of the Russian Orthodox Church warmly congratulated Metropolitan Porfirije on his election and wished him much success and support from God for the upcoming patriarchal ministry.
“Warmly thanking Patriarch Kirill for his wishes and congratulations, Porfirije asked for the Patriarch’s prayers for the successful course of the position entrusted to him,” the announcement states, among other things.
In addition to the Patriarch, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk also congratulated the newly elected Patriarch of Serbia by telephone.
