Patriarch of Alexandria on the situation in Sudan: Egypt will do everything in its power

Hours of agony and a nightmare without end for the Greeks living in Sudan, as day by day the situation becomes even more turbulent.

Metropolitan Savvas of Nubia and All Sudan spoke about the prevailing conditions, while Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa spoke about the help that Egypt will provide.

“Nothing has changed, the only thing that has changed is that today it has intense air strikes and it has powerful explosions from everywhere. We got food so we have enough for another 5-6 days and we borrowed a barrel of oil,” said Metropolitan Savvas of Nubia and All Sudan.

“When the dawn comes, we live the miracle that it is dawn and we are alive,” says Fr. George Maurikos – Priest of the Orthodox Metropolis.
In the Orthodox Metropolis of Khartoum, 15 Greeks remain trapped, including three children… and while there was fear that supplies were running out, a solution was finally found.

Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria spoke to ERT 3 about the promise of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi that he will do everything he can to help the civilians of Sudan.

“Egypt will do everything in its power. I am talking to the ambassadors in Greece and Cyprus to see how we can bring them food, water, and medicines because no one can be approached by bullets,” the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa said.

In Sudan, there are a total of 150 Greeks and 1000 Europeans seeking a way out of the hell of hostilities.

“At the moment we are trying to see all the possibilities the airport is not working, if there are no safe ways out we cannot evacuate,” said Andreas Katsaniotis, Deputy Foreign Minister for Greeks Abroad.
