With the blessing of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady, in West Perth, on Palm Sunday, 9 April 2023, commemorating the feast of the triumphal entry of our Lord into Jerusalem.
Crowds of worshipers flocked to all the churches of the Archdiocesan District of Perth on Palm Sunday as the Orthodox Church celebrated one of the brightest feast days of the year.
In his sermon, Bishop Elpidios reminded us that Christ’s entry into Jerusalem has more than historical significance. It also has a spiritual meaning for every modern Christian, he pointed out, explaining that Jerusalem symbolizes the human soul and the entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, the entry of God into our soul.
After the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Elpidios attended the Sunday meal served at the Parish of Saints Constantine and Helene, in the presence of the Consul of Greece in Perth, Ms. Georgia Karasiotou. The meal was a great success, with around 200 parishioners in attendance.
At the end of the meal, the Polychronion of the Archbishop of Australia, Archbishop Makarios was chanted, and Bishop Elpidios wished everyone, on behalf of the Archbishop, a blessed and saving Holy Week.
