The official Doxology Service for Greek Independence Day was held on the Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross at the Church of Sts Constantine and Helene in Perth, WA.
The Doxology Service took place following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy officiated by Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea and in the presence of the Consul of Greece in Perth, Georgia Karasiotou.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Elpidios read the message of Archbishop Makarios of Australia on the occasion of the Double Feast of March 25. In the message, Bishop Elpidios stated that: “Not coincidentally, the wondrous event of the Annunciation of the Theotokos is celebrated together with the anniversary of the Regeneration of the Greek Nation. A regeneration that was achieved due to the deep faith in God of the enslaved Greeks, which encouraged them to rise up and fight for freedom, without taking into account their numeric and material deficiency against the conqueror.
The Doxology Service was then followed by the Wreath Laying Service at the State War Memorial in Kings Park.
