The believers of Kozani and Western Macedonia honoured with respect the Holy Icon of Panagia Zidaniotissa on the afternoon of Sunday of St. Thomas.
Every year, on the Friday of the Bright Week, the Icon of the Virgin Mary the Eleousa (mother of mercy), which is kept in the Holy Monastery of Panagia in Zidani in the prefecture of Kozani, is presented to the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Eleni of Kozani, and on Sunday of Thomas afternoon it is being transferred to the historic Church of Agios Nikolaos.
Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos officiated at the procession along with Metropolitans Georgios of Kitros, Katerini and Platamon, Chariton of Elassona, and David of Grevena, as well as Metropolitan Pavlos of Kozani.
The procession passed through the main roads to the central square of the city, while fireworks from the historic Bell Tower of Agios Nikolaos illuminated the sky.
The Holy Icon will remain in the Church for fifteen days, and then it will be on display in all the Parishes of the city for equal amounts of time for believers to pay their respects until the 31st July, when it will return to its base at the Holy Monastery of Panagia in Zidani.
