Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand spoke on SKAI TV about the situation in the region following Friday’s deadly attacks.
“At the moment I was informed of the incident, I took the first flight and arrived here. Trisagion (memorial services) and prayers were performed in all Orthodox churches for the repose of the souls of all those murdered in Christchurh.”
He added that New Zealand’s society provides lessons of coexistence and does not cultivate any rivalry among people of different faiths.
“Christchurch is a community of 400,000 people with 109 different nationalities. They coexist harmoniously because they respect and tolerate diversity,” Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand said.
“The love and support of the inhabitants of the area to the relatives of the victims of the carnage are really moving. The florists have sold out and now the flowers left by people at the point of the attack come from their own gardens. They are all on the same side of the river,” the Metropolitan added.
