Middle and high school diplomas will not mention religion

Middle and high school diplomas will not mention religion

This year, the middle and high school diplomas that will be given to graduates will not mention religion but will include both the father’s and the mother’s surname.

In particular, the Ministry of Education, with a circular sent shortly before the end of the school year to all Gymnasia (middle schools) and Lyceums (high schools), invites their headmasters, prior to issuing the diplomas, to enter in “myschool” information system the surname of the mother and not the clan, as they used to before the relevant Ministerial Decisions.

By decision of Minister of Education Kostas Gavroglu, this year, pupils that graduate from Greek schools will be given diplomas that do not mention religion.

Religion cannot be registered on the diplomas unless there is an affidavit first, as stated by a decision of the Ministry of Education, which states that: “Data not included in ID cards or birth certificates are not recorded in the official books and papers, unless they are declared with an affidavit of Law 1599/1986 (A ’75) of the parents or guardian of the pupil.”
