The resignation of Metropolitan Varsonofy of St Petersburg and Ladoga as the protosyncellus of the Patriarchate of Moscow was approved by the members of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Russia, which convened today.
At the Holy Synod chaired by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus’, the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg expressed his wish to resign from the position of the protosyncellus due to increased workload in the eparchy of St Petersburg.
“Ι should like to convey my heartfelt thanks to Patriarch Kirill for the trust he showed in me by appointing me as head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Administration since 2009,” Metropolitan Varsonofy said.
The members of the Holy Synod approved the resignation of Metropolitan Varsonofy, while expressing heartfelt thanks to the Metropolitan for the work undertaken over the last 10 years.
Metropolitan Savva of Tver was reportedly appointed as the First Deputy Administrator of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate.
