On Saturday, April 3, 2021, Metropolitan Bessarion of Spain and Portugal attended the Easter Vigil of the Roman Catholic Church in the Cathedral of Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid at the invitation of Cardinal Carlos Osoro, Archbishop of Madrid, thus returning the fraternal visit that he made the week before at the enthronement of the new Metropolitan of Spain and Portugal.
Metropolitan Bessarion was warmly welcomed by the Cardinal and other members of the curia, followed by a visit to the Cathedral and the chapter house.
The Metropolitan had the opportunity to admire the Neo-Byzantine style icons and decoration of the temple, many of which were created by the Slovenian priest and artist Marko Ivan Rupnik.
During the Easter Vigil, as well as at the end of the service, the Metropolitan and Cardinal Carlos Osoro exchanged fraternal wishes.
