A supplication service for an end of the coronavirus pandemic was held on Thursday, May 14, 2020, in all the Greek Orthodox Churches of Cairo, following the decision by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa.
The Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, held the supplication service at the chapel of St. Nektarios located just below the cell of the saint.
The Metropolitan prayed behind closed doors and without the presence of faithful in front of the holy icon of the Virgin Mary for an end of the coronavirus pandemic. Immediately afterwards, the Metropolitan of Memphis prayed in front of the holy icon of Saint Nektarios, who with patience, courage and unwavering faith in God endured the persecutions and hardship.
After the relevant measures taken by the Egyptian government and the relevant encyclical issued by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, the services are conducted behind closed doors and without the presence of faithful in all Orthodox churches.
