A sanctification rite of the traditional Easter buns for the soldiers fighting in the frontline was held today by Metropolitan Epiphaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine in the courtyard of St. Michael’s Cathedral in Kyiv.
The traditional bun (Easter) is the sweet bread (looks like a cake), which in the countries of Eastern Europe has been combined with the great celebration of Orthodoxy.
From the night of Holy Saturday, the faithful come to the churches to celebrate having Easter buns with them for sanctification.
Also, sanctification is often done beforehand, even in the factory where the specific sweet bread is produced.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, Metropolitan Epiphaniy met with the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Nayev.
The primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine stressed that the Church of Ukraine will continue to support the soldiers defending the country.
