Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand characterized the mission assigned to him by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew as a “gift of God” and expressed his thanks to God and to his predecessors who left behind a great work and a faithful flock in this terrific corner of the earth.
Metropolitan Myron, speaking at the politica radio station 89.8 FM, described the first days of his high priesthood in New Zealand, as well as the mission where important work is being done.
“New Zealand was familiar to me, with kind people, and I was blessed to go in 2003 and 2004 to receive the Metropolis,” he said.
As for the activities, Metropolitan Myron said: “The actions of the Orthodox Church in New Zealand and in the Fiji, Tonga and Samoa islands are continuing, and new orphanages and boarding schools are being established. The missionary activity of our church is daily, since many Christians are baptized.”
The Metropolitan also referred to the Greek community of New Zealand, which is active, close to the Church and adheres faithfully to the customs and traditions of Greece.
As for the tragic incident of the attack at the Mosques, Metropolitan Myron has condemned the incident, described it as horrible and condemned for tainting the peaceful country of New Zealand.
