On Sunday, 17 July 2022 with the blessing of Archbishop Makarios, Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis presided in the Divine Luturgy and memorial service at the Holy Church of Saint Eustathios Church in South Melbourne in remembrance of the Turkish invasion on July 20, 1974, and the subsequent occupation of Northern Cyprus.
Following the Divine Liturgy and memorial service, Bishop Kyriakos attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the Australian Hellenic Memorial on Birdwood Avenue near the Shine of Remembrance in Melbourne.
In the presence of Bishop Kyriakos was the High Commissioner of Cyprus in Australia, Martha Mavrommatis, the Republic of Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Shipping, Vassilis Demetriadis, and the special guest of Justice of Cyprus SEKA.
Unfortunately, more than 48 years following the occupation of Northern Cyprus, Turkey still occupies this territory.
