On May 24, 2022, Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa attended an official banquet in Cairo in honor of the Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, by the Ambassador of Cyprus, Homer Mavromatis, in the context of his official visit to Egypt.
This was preceded by a private meeting between the Patriarch and the Minister, in which issues related to the new energy policy of the Eastern Mediterranean countries were discussed.
The Patriarch also presented to the Minister the actions of the Patriarchate in all the states of Africa, the decisive contribution of the Cypriot brothers of the diaspora to them, as well as the pastoral care of the Hierarchs of the Throne towards the Cypriot communities.
Finally, he expressed once again the gratitude of the Church of Alexandria to the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the Archbishop of Cyprus, as well as to the Holy Synod, for the continuous and full of sacrifice support to the missionary, pastoral, humanitarian, and national work on the African continent in general.
On his part, Kasoulides stressed the Cyprus Republic’s unceasing understanding and synergy in the sacrificial ministry of the African fellow human from the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
It is noted that the banquet was attended by the Deputy Minister of European Affairs of Egypt Ihab Taalat Nasr, the Ambassador of Greece Nikolaos Garilidis, the Ambassador of the EU to Egypt Christian Berger, and more.
