The statements of a member of parliament of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), who more or less proposed that Hagia Sophia should be reconverted into a Chirstian church, have provoked a roar in Turkey, as broadcast this morning by SKAI TV and “Simera” (Today) show.
“Hagia Sophia has a special value. This place, today, should be in the use of the sacred faith by which it was built and founded”, the parliamentarian, Hüda Kaya said firmly.
MP Kaya even spoke of “hundreds of occupied buildings like Hagia Sophia,” in the neighboring country where “interventions have been made, invasions have taken place and their use has changed.”
The Turkish media have revolted against her, whereas some even call for the prosecutor’s intervention.
