During a traditional Iftar dinner yesterday to mark the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims, President of the Turkish National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, expressed that the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque should serve as a precursor to the liberation of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Addressing a gathering of religious high school alumni association, Numan Kurtulmus stated, “Reflecting on our aspirations in our youth, our objectives and ambitions, I won’t enumerate them individually. While much has been achieved, there remains one pivotal goal: With divine assistance, I trust that the generation you embody will realize it in the times ahead. I am talking about ensuring and guiding a new, fair global system.”
The President of the Turkish National Assembly believes that this objective is encapsulated in a statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: “Just as we reopened Hagia Sophia after years of hope, prayer, and longing, the reopening of Hagia Sophia, the liberation of Hagia Sophia, will pave the way for the liberation of Al Aqsa. It will serve as a harbinger of the freedom of the Al Aqsa Mosque.”
