Greek President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos ruled out on Friday the possibility of negotiation on the “pseudo-memorandum between Turkey and Libya.”
President Pavlopoulos is visiting the city of Ioannina to attend events marking the 107th anniversary of the city’s liberation from the Ottoman rule. He sent a strong message towards everyone and especially towards Turkey that as the guarantor of legality, Greece will impose the respect for and the implementation of the international and European law.
“We do not accept Turkey’s arbitrariness over the implementation of the Law of the Sea,” the President of the Republic clarified, in reply to those who say that the country should negotiate on the Turkey-Libya’s memorandum. “We make it clear once again that the ‘Turkey-Libya pseudo-memorandum’ is non-existent and has no legal effect. Therefore, in no way can Greece be the subject of any negotiation. The above means, among others, that we will exercise, freely and without discounts, our inalienable right to shield our islands against the provocative Turkish threat, he underlined.
