On the first day of its extraordinary meeting, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy expressed its fundamental confidence in the Special Committee for dialogue between the Church and the State.
As stated in the communiqué issued after conclusion of the committee’s work, the Holy Synod unanimously congratulated the Special Committee on “the excellent way in which has addressed the issue to this day entrusted to it”.
Prior to the beginning of the meeting, an Archieratic Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts was held at the katholikon of the Holy Petraki Monastery, by the Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larisa and Tyrnavos.
At 9 am, a Divine Liturgy was held in the Great Hall of Session for the start of the work of the Holy Synod.
The Press Committee was established, consisting of the Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos and St. Vlasios, Metropolitan Dorotheos of Syros, Tinos, Andros, Keas and Milos, and Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras.
The Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, as President of the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy, thanked the Archpriests for their attendance at the meeting.
According to the Synod’s agenda, Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos and St. Vlasios made his presentation on Church-State Dialogue on issues of common interest, as part of the decision of the Hierarchy of the Church on November 16, and made proposals to the Synod of the Hierarchy.
Tomorrow, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy will continue its work and decide on the matters that have been raised by Metropolitan Ierotheos, and have been discussed.
Finally, in view of the terrible events that have taken place in New Zealand and internationally, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece condemns all violence, from wherever it originates, and especially when it derives from religious fanaticism.
The Holy Synod of the Hierarchy will continue its work tomorrow.
