Honourable “Patriarch” Filaret Denishenko announced his intention to restore the so-called “Patriarchate of Kiev”.
Filaret, in an interview with the TCH television network, said that “the Patriarchate of Kiev is still here.”
He added that he has sent invitations to all the Bishops, whom he invites to a fraternal discussion.
According to the invitation, “Patriarch” Filaret asks to discuss with the Hierarchs the prospects of restoring the Patriarchate of Kiev, which he will lead himself.
The head of the Autocephalous Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphanius, in response to questions from the television network regarding the incident, said he has not been invited to this meeting.
According to Metropolitan Epiphanius, any step backwards will be detrimental to the Church as it will lead back to isolation.
“It is inappropriate to talk about going back now, we have to talk about our future, our unity, because in the future we have much to do for this church to be recognized by other local orthodox churches,” Metropolitan Epiphanius added.
Finally, Epiphanius said that “this is automatically the path that leads to nowhere, it is a path to isolation, our return to where we were until October 11, before the relevant decisions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.”
