On June 1, 2024, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine welcomed the creators of the Ukrainian feature film “Slovo House: Unfinished Novel,” which is dedicated to the era of the “Executed Renaissance.”
The Metropolitan received the film’s director, Taras Tomenko, producers Yuliia Cherniavska and Oleh Shcherbyna, and actors Nina Naboka and Viacheslav Dovzhenko. The meeting also included Abbot Feodosij (Liakhovych) of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery and Deacon Rostyslav Martynjuk.
During the conversation, they discussed the need to consolidate the efforts of every Ukrainian to bring victory over the Russian aggressor closer. They emphasized the importance of developing and popularizing Ukrainian history and culture, particularly through films about significant events and figures for Ukraine.
The filmmakers also shared with Metropolitan Epifaniy that their film depicts the heyday of Ukrainian art in the 1920s and 1930s. This period was marked by challenges, showcasing the power of the word, the spirit, and the resistance to the totalitarian Soviet system.
“It is difficult to overestimate the importance of popularizing our culture, including the significant and tragic period of the ‘Executed Renaissance’. After all, the same enemy seeks to destroy us as a separate nation once again and appropriate all our historical, spiritual, and cultural heritage. Therefore, it is our duty not to allow this to happen, but to preserve and enhance the national heritage and pass it on to future generations,” said the Metropolitan.
In addition, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine honored the guests with high church awards.
