The students of the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Belgium held with great success the qualifying exams on Saturday, June 12, 2022.
The exams for the spring semester, which also marked the end of the current teaching year, were held at the Bookstore of the Metropolitan Church of the Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Brussels, where the headquarters of the School of Byzantine Music “Saint Ilarios” is located. The selection board consisted of Fr. Konstantinos Dedes, Director of the School, Fr. Antonios Tarlizos, Christos Papakonstantinou, Despina Gasparis, Maria Noussi,s and Chrysoula Psimoulis, teachers of the School.
Although the school of Byzantine Music counts only two years since its foundation, it numbers many students, the majority of whom participated in the examination process. Significant progress and a high level of students were found, which treats honor and joy for the psaltic family of the Metropolis of Belgium. As Fr. Konstantinos announced, next year the School of Byzantine Music will inaugurate a new department of “Traditional Greek Music” and will organize a great music and dance event on October 28, 2022, on the day of the national anniversary, dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
It is worth noting that the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolis of Belgium and the Exarchate of the Netherlands and Luxembourg was founded in 2020, at the urging and at the request of Metropolitan Athenagoras, in order to serve the learning and dissemination of Psaltic Art in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Finally, the enrolment period for the coming year 2022 – 2023 begins on September 1, while the official opening of the courses will take place with the celebration of the Vespers Service of Panagia Gorgoepicoos on September 30, 2022, when the certificates of promotion of the examinations that took place will be given.
