While Archbishop Ieronymos was initially scheduled to be present at the port of Piraeus for the ritual sanctification of the waters following the Divine Liturgy of the Epiphany, he did not attend.
The Archbishop is one of the hundreds of thousands of Greeks who have reportedly been infected with the latest variant of COVID.
The Archbishop does not exhibit severe symptoms; nonetheless, he is required to remain confined to his home, receiving the necessary treatment.
The service of the Blessing of the Waters in Piraeus
Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus and Faliro presided over the Blessing of the Waters service, attended by political and military leaders. This year’s ceremony took place at Piraeus, the nation’s primary port.
At 11:00 in the morning, at the pier opposite the Church of Saint Spyridon in Piraeus, the Blessing of the Waters service took place while men of the Greek Navy SEALs Association dived to grab the Cross.
