The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to transfer Metropolitan Evangelos of Jersey to the Metropolis of Sardes and sentence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston to a cessation of canonical duties until Christmas during today’s meeting.
In particular, on the third day of the meeting, the Holy Synod decided to suspend the force of the Charter of the Holy Archdiocese of America with the prospect of setting up a joint committee with representatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Archdiocese to draft a new Charter.
It also placed Metropolitan Methodios of Boston under a penance of suspension until the Feast of Christmas for having committed canonical transgressions
He also transferred Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey to the Metropolis of Sardes and appointed Archbishop Elpidophoros of America as the Patriarchal Vicar in the vacant Metropolis of New Jersey.
