Bishop of Efkarpia fell asleep in the Lord – Funeral service to be held on Thursday in Patras (upd)

Bishop Ierotheos of Efkarpia fell asleep in the Lord today, Monday, March 11, 2024.

The Bishop has been undergoing treatment for cancer in Patras over the past few months.

Τhe funeral service of the late Bishop of Efkarpia will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity of Patras. The burial will take place in the birthplace in the region of Etoloakarnania.

Also known as Ioannis Zacharis, he was born in Thermo in the Province of Trichonida in the Prefecture of Aitoloakarnania.

He studied Theology at the Theological School of Athens.

He was ordained Deacon and Presbyter by Metropolitan Nikodimos of Patras. He served as Protosyncellus of the Metropolis of Patras.

In 2012 he was appointed Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria, New York. During the Patriarchal and Synodal Liturgy on March 5, 2017, at the Church of St. George in the Phanar of Constantinople, he was ordained Titular Bishop of Efkarpia.
