The Hierarchal Divine Liturgy was celebrated today, Sunday of Forgiveness, also known as Cheesefare Sunday, at the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Tala, Paphos.
In particular, Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus presided over the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy, which was concelebrated by Archimandrite Ioannis, the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Apostolos Varnavas, and the clergy of the Archdiocese and the Metropolis of Paphos.
In addition, the Patriarch’s Encyclical was read at the beginning of Great Lent. “It is the commencement of Great Lent, during which the faithful fast, go to church, pray, repent, and forgive, following the example of the Christian martyrs. Let Christ enter our hearts. We must strive for self-sacrifice and self-consciousness and seek redemption from the sense of vindication regarding others, whoever they are; our relatives, colleagues, partners, fellow human beings in our community, parish, society. The prayer that says ‘Lord have mercy on them and on us’ must be our goal in our lives. If we forgive our fellow human beings, we will be forgiven as well,” said the Archbishop of Cyprus.
