Having been informed of the passing to the Lord of the late blessed Archbishop of New Justinia and All Cyprus, with great sorrow, served the memorial service for the repose of his blessed soul, and sent the following Patriarchal Letter to the Locum Tenens of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus, George, Metropolitan of Paphos, expressing His prayers of condolence and His gratitude for the many benefits made by the blessed Primate to the Ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria:
Your Eminence George, metropolitan of Paphos, Locum Tenens of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus, beloved brother and concelebrant in the Lord of Our Mediocrity, grace and mercy and peace be with you from our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
In deep sorrow and anguish in our heart, we were informed of the passing to the Lord of the blessed Archbishop of Nea Justinia and All Cyprus, Chrysostom II, a much loved and cherished brother and concelebrant of our Mediocrity, for whom we prayed to the Lord to place his soul in the land of the living.
We had the good fortune to get to know the blessed Primate from many years ago and to admire, not only his extreme devotion to the Orthodox faith and to the unshakeable rights of the holy land of Cyprus, but especially his pioneering theological speech and his undivided love for the Holy Church of Christ under heaven.
For even during the times of his brilliant Primate’s ministry, our Ancient Apostolic and Patriarchal Throne of Saint Mark, philanthropically benefited from the multiple blessings of the blessed Primate, with whom we were connected by steadfast and sincere friendship.
May the memory of the venerable Archbishop of Nea Justinia and All Cyprus, Chrysostomos II, an ecclesiastical man of undeniable spiritual stature, who served the Apostolic Church of Cyprus productively, be eternal.
Beloved brother in Christ,
+ THEODOROS II
Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa
