Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens held a meeting today morning with Mayor of Athens Kostas Bakoyannis.
The Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Bishop Filotheos of Oreoi, and the Director-General of “Apostoli” NGO, Kostis Dimtsas, also attended the meeting.
During the discussion, the primate of the Church of Greece and the mayor of Athens agreed that they would cooperate even more systematically in a wide range of specific actions and interventions that would improve the daily life of vulnerable groups of the population such as the poor, the homeless, the drug addicts, and all those affected by the coronavirus pandemic who need material and moral support.
Archbishop Ieronymos said that the “Apostoli” NGO would provide assistance to the Mayor of Athens, and emphasized that the Church, as it had done throughout the years of crisis, would continue as much as possible to support our homeless and suffering fellow human beings.
“At these times, it is important to join forces.
Let us make a joint effort to help all the helpless, lonely or weak at these critical times.
The Municipality of Athens finds once again an ally and companion of the church towards this effort, the “Apostoli” NGO and especially Archbishop Ieronymos,” Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis immediately after the meeting.
