Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all of Greece sent a congratulatory letter on the occasion of the election of the new Patriarch of Serbia that was held yesterday on the 18th of February 2021.
Moreover, in the letter, the Archbishop of Athens said that the Archdiocese of Athens was informed about the election of the new Patriarch of Serbia who succeeded to the throne late Patriarch Irinej of Serbia. “We, therefore, would like to congratulate the clergy, the faithful, and your Church on the election of their new Patriarch.”
“We wish from the bottom of our hearts that, just like ‘the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,’ (Hebrews 13:20-21) to show you the Evangelical and canonical traditions of our Holy Fathers, that will enlighten the deceased who have been lying in the dark and shadow,” he said.
“Our fellow Orthodox Serbian people, who have suffered a lot in the past, we have been walking the same path throughout the centuries that church, historical, and brotherly unshakable ties bind us together. The Lord offered the Serbian people a new Head of their Church with apostolic values by the Grace of the Holy Spirit,” he added in the letter.
Finally, he wished: “May God offer you a long and serene patriarchal ministry as well as we wish all the best to the Holy Serbian Church and the faithful through the intercession of our Saint and Father Sava, the first Archbishop of Serbia and of all of our saints.”
