The register of damaged and ruined church buildings of Russia has almost four thousand objects already, the website of the Moscow Patriarchate reported on Thursday as reported by Interfax.
At the same time, it was noted that, according to the total estimates of the diocesan tree keepers, about a thousand churches have a high risk of collapse in the next decade.
Two years ago, the Supreme Church Council approved the concept of creating an electronic and digital archive for all ruined churches in a short time, the data of which will later help to recreate them even in the most negative scenario up to the complete loss of the original building.
Now this idea is beginning to be implemented, for which grants and donations are attracted.
It was decided to direct priority efforts to wooden churches as the most vulnerable to natural aging. There are about eight thousand of them in Russia.
The Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitanate has been identified as a pilot site for digitizing ruined and emergency temple buildings.
This year, 200 objects are planned to be scanned on its territory, 150 of which are recognized as architectural monuments of federal significance.
