The priest who threw acid at seven metropolitan bishops and a police officer during a synodic conference that planned to defrock him at Petraki monastery in Athens and was arrested on Wednesday evening, was transferred to Dromokaitio Psychiatric Hospital of Attica on Thursday afternoon claiming he is suffering from psychiatric problems.
The priest will be examined by a group of experts who will decide on what will happen next.
Metropolitans discharged from hospitals
Seven Greek Orthodox metropolitans who were hospitalized after an acid attack yesterday were discharged after being provided with medication on Thursday.
They, an archimandrite serving as secretary, and a policeman were attacked by a priest during a church conference at Petrakis monastery on Wednesday, after it became clear he was to be defrocked.
The seven were initially hospitalized at Laiko Hospital before being transferred to Gennimatas and KAT Hospitals.
Four (of Goumenissa, Kifissia, Driinoupolis-Konitsa and Kassandria) received medication for mild cornea damage before being discharged, and the remaining three (of Glyfada, Zankynthos and Arta) for mild skin burns.
Still remaining hospitalized with more severe burns is the archimandrite.
