On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the Holy Metropolis of Samos celebrated with ecclesiastical splendor the Saints of the Greek island of Samos, fulfilling a sacred duty and paying due honor and gratitude to Saints Hermogenes, Leon, and Heraklion, Bishops of Samos; Saint George the Neomartyr; Saint Paul Latrinos; the Holy military martyrs Gregory, Theodore, and Leon; and the Holy Kollyvades Fathers.
The celebrations commenced on Saturday, August 3, with the festive Hierarchical Vespers held at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas of Samos, officiated by Metropolitan Eusevios of Samos. Following the Vespers, a procession of the Holy Relics and the Holy Icons of the Saints took place along the waterfront of the city of Samos. This was accompanied by the Artoklasia and a Holy Sermon delivered by Metropolitan Eusevios.
On Sunday, August 4, the Matins Service (Orthros) was celebrated, followed by the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas of Samos, presided over by Metropolitan Eusevios. During the Liturgy, Fr. Anastasios Kokonos was ordained as a presbyter.
Before the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, a memorial service was chanted for the repose of the souls of emigrant Samians from around the world. It had been established that the Sunday of the Saints of Samos would be dedicated to these emigrants.
On Sunday evening, the Holy Metropolis organized a festive event and an island festival in honor of the emigrants of Samos. This event, held at the Port of Samos in front of Pythagoras Square, featured performances by the children’s and youth choir “Evodia.”
All the celebrations were attended by the priests of the Metropolis, the political and military authorities of the island, and several expatriate Samians from Australia, America, Canada, Africa, Athens, and Thessaloniki. Many other guests also attended the events, contributing to the grandeur and joy of the occasion.
