Serbian Patriarch Porfirije met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, State Secretary of the Holy See, today at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade.
In a conversation marked by Christian understanding, both sides agreed that the commemoration of the centenary of the Archdiocese of Belgrade is a testament to the positive relations between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in Serbia. They also emphasized the need for further cooperation between the two Churches at both the local and universal levels.
Patriarch Porfirije expressed gratitude for the Holy See’s stance on Kosovo and Metohija and briefed Cardinal Parolin on the extremely precarious and concerning situation facing Serbs and the Christian heritage in this historic Serbian region. Discussions also covered potential avenues of support for maintaining peace and ensuring the ongoing presence and evangelical mission of the Serbian Orthodox Church and its leadership in Kosovo and Metohija. This mission benefits not only Orthodox Serbs but also Albanians and all others in the region.
Additionally, they discussed recent legislation passed by the Parliament of Ukraine that prohibits the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under Metropolitan Onufriy, addressing the challenges and implications of such a decision.
