On Saturday, 22 June 2024, the eve of the Feast of Holy Pentecost, Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote, visited the Church of the Holy Trinity in Footscray, of the Greek Community of Melbourne, and officiated at the Great Vespers of the Feast Day, and was joined by the clergy of the Archdiocesan District of Northcote.
At the conclusion of the Vespers Service, the Bishop conveyed to the congregation the wishes and blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
In addition, the Bishop spoke to the faithful about the Saturday of the Souls and explained its double character and meaning: “Those who are sleeping in the Lord call us to pray for them, but they also call us to remember that death is not far away, and that it will meet us too and we must be ready. And how do we properly prepare? Only by participating in the sacramental life of the Church, which is the fruit of the Holy Spirit.”
Concluding, Bishop Evmenios emphasized that for a faithful person, every day is Pentecost. “Every miracle, every sunrise is Pentecost,” he noted and added: “We must leave ourselves free for the Holy Spirit to guide us to salvation.”
