Within the framework of the pastoral visit of Archbishop Makarios of Australia to South Australia, especially to Adelaide, the “City of Churches”, a Clergy Assembly of the clergy of the region was held. The theme of the assembly was the celebration of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.
The main speaker was the Archbishop, who explained the deeper meaning of the celebration, focusing on the word “Paraclete” and trying to interpret Christ’s words to his disciples: “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you” (Jn 14:16). A fruitful theological discussion and dialogue followed, preceded by greetings from the Bishops present, Silouan of Sinope, and Bartholomew of Charioupolis.
The program for the upcoming visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Australia in October of this year was then presented to the clergy of Adelaide. Ways in which the clergy and people of South Australia can participate in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Holy Archdiocese, which will be led by the Ecumenical Patriarch, were also discussed.
