Young men and women of the Greek Diaspora chanted the carols of the day and traditional Christmas songs for Archbishop Makarios of Australia on Thursday morning.
A delegation from the Christian Association of Greek Youth and children of the dance departments of the Pontian Brotherhood of New South Wales “The Pontoxeniteas” visited the Archbishop at the Archdiocese’s headquarters in Redfern, Sydney.
The Archbishop, after thanking from the bottom of his heart the young people who visited him, talked to them, offered them treats and exchanged wishes in view of the celebration of Christmas and the coming of the new year.
In particular, he asked the members of the Christian Union to visit the Archdiocese regularly, to discuss and exchange thoughts with him, while he urged them to stay close to Christ, who is the light in our lives, as he pointed out to them, which we owe to share with other people.
The children of the Association “O Pontoxeniteas” sang the traditional Pontian Christmas carols accompanied by the Pontian lyre.
The Archbishop excitedly referred to the greatness of the Pontian culture before the uprooting and urged the young people to be proud of their place of origin and of their ancestors. He also received two beautiful gifts, the diary of “Pontoxenitea” for 2021 and a historical album about Pontian Greek community.
