US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will be in Souda, Crete, next week, with the government seeking to exploit his presence in Greece from both the strategic and communication point of view, especially at a time when Greek-Turkish relations remain tense.
In fact, the head of the US State Department will be in Greece —barring unforeseen incidents— after the EU summit, during which sanctions against Turkey will be considered in response to the stand that Turkey has taken recently.
Mike Pompeo, as reported by vema.com.au., will reportedly stay in Greece for two days. First, he will speak at a conference in Thessaloniki, but all eyes will be on Souda in Chania and his statements from the US Naval Base in the region while the government expects a stern message to Ankara.
