The recent communiqué of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate regarding the examination of the appeal of the so-called schismatic “Macedonian” Church of Skopje was positively commented in Skopje.
A large portion of the media in Northern Macedonia stressed that the Church of Northern Macedonia is now entering a process for settling definitively its canonical status.
Ecclesiastical analysts in the neighbouring country believe the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s announcement is a first step towards the resolution of the canonical status of the so-called “Church of Skopje”.
“This ecclesiastical problem can only be solved by Constantinople. However, it remains unknown how the decision will be taken,” says analyst Branko Gjorgevski Church speaking at novamakedonija.
Also, in the so-called “Macedonian” Church, it was positively commented that in the announcement the Ecumenical Patriarchate calls the country under its new name, “Northern Macedonia”.
The Ecumenical Patriarch, in an interview with the Serbian newspaper Politika, had previously reported that the case of Ukraine is not the same with that of Skopje.
“The Ecumenical Patriarchate will not alter the status of the Church of Serbia and its limits, without conciliation and cooperation,” Patriarch Bartholomew said in his interview.
