The law concerning the salaries of priests in Cyprus was presented in plenary on Friday, in order to regulate the issue of the payroll of the priests of the Church of Greece.

Members of the Parliament were asked to update the 1970 Agreement on the salaries of priests. The cost to the State of the salaries of the priests is about 6,5 million euros for 722 priests.

The entire bill was passed with 32 votes in favour and 17 against.

Under the bill, that number will continue to grow each year, and by 2026 the number of priests receiving State benefits will increase by 0.5%.

According to the bill, the Republic of Cyprus, on the basis of the Agreement, priests will continue to receive government subsidies from the State budget.
