The four repatriated frescoes are at the possession of the Archbishop of Cyprus, Mr. Chrysostomos.
As he said, “let us pray that the day shall come when these frescoes shall return to the place they truly belong, and when our occupied territories shall be freed, because only then can we settle: when they return home, to the temples whence they come from”.
It should be reminded that a few days ago, as Romfea.News had written, the four frescoes were handed over by the NGO Walk of Truth to the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Cyprus, Vasiliki Anastasiadou, during a special ceremony at the Embassy of Cyprus in the Hague.
On her return to Cyprus, during the handing over of the frescoes, V. Anastasiadou noted that “by the repatriation of the frescoes, that are also symbols of our faith, another source is closed”.
Marina Solomidou Hieronymidou, director of the Department of Antiquities, said that “repatriation is not an easy matter. The solving of these cases may take years. Concerted efforts are necessary for a successful ending. It takes a lot of patience, insistence, devotion and professionalism”.
These frescoes shall be transferred first to Makarios’ Institute and soon after to the Department of Antiquities for maintenance.
