During the Thronal Feast of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Metropolitan Vasilios of Constantia and Ammochostos concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria.
Metropolitan Vasilios was actually something more than a representative of the Church of Cyprus considering that during the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv was commemorated. That is why his presence was very important; the issue of the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine created tensions between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Patriarchate of Moscow. The latter took countermeasures that affect some Orthodox Churches. Therefore, the Church of Cyprus struggles to maintain a balance between the two parties.
Within the hierarchy of the Church of Cyprus, there is a group of Metropolitans whose members have opposed to the decision to grant autocephaly to the Church of Ukraine. The most glaring example of this was at the time when Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria visited Limassol, a few days after the recognition of the autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine and the commemoration of Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv.
