Metropolitan Eirinaios of Lampi, Sivritos, and Sfakia, assumes the position of Locum Tenens of the Holy Archdiocese of Crete, after yesterday’s decision of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to relieve Archbishop Eirinaios of his position.
The Synod of the Church of Crete, with its announcement, emphasized that the Metropolitan of Sfakia will initiate the legal procedures to instruct the Triprosopo by the Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete and its mission to the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the election of a new Archbishop of Crete.
In its announcement, the Church of Crete expressed its respect and gratitude to the contribution and work of its President Eirinaios, who for many decades served the Church of Crete with devotion, fidelity, and love, while at the same time thanked the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, for its “historic” decision.
It should be reminded that on Thursday, December 3, 2021, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate approved the decision of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete to dismiss Archbishop Eirinaios from his duties, due to his deteriorating health condition and expressed its affection to Archbishop Eirinaios who “dedicated himself in the sacred affairs of the Church and in the Christian people of God”.
