In Larnaca, the enthronement of the new Metropolitan of Kition, Nektarios, was held yesterday at Sotiros Metropolitan Church.
The new Metropolitan of Kition received a warm welcome at the entrance of the Metropolis by members of the Holy Synod, the Holy Clergy of the city and province of Larnaca and thousands of people.
The enthronement was held by Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos himself, saying that the Church “has a duty to follow the course of human progress and to enlighten it in the light of divine revelation. The purpose of the Church is not to compete with other social actors, nor to offer a better social work, but to offer to man what others cannot offer”.
Addressing the new Metropolitan of Kition, Metropolitan Georgios of Paphos expressed confidence that he would succeed in this endeavor, as their eleven-year collaboration “no doubt is a guarantee of his qualifications, morals and workmanship” while “his gentle and gracious character, his education and his deep faith in God and man’s potential ensure the effectiveness of his effort”.
In his own address, the new Metropolitan of Kition, Nektarios, said he is in awe of “the gracious personalities who honored this throne with their presence. I am deeply anxious from the depth of my heart to adequately respond to this sacred mission”, he said and noted that in Larnaca he was born, raised, ordained and lived until his election as Bishop of Arsinoe.
The Metropolitan expressed his “warm and heartfelt thanks” to those who support him in various ways, including the Holy Synod and Archbishop Chrysostomos II.
