The date of May 11, 2022, will henceforth be a historic day for the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea, and especially for the Parish of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the city of Jeonju.
On this day all the holy items and furniture were transferred to the new church from the temporary church, operating since March 2016 in a rented Hall. The new church was erected after the demolition of the old church by the local government, due to the expropriation of the vast area to create a new city as an extension of the historic city of Jeonju.
Early in the morning of Wednesday, May 11, the process of transferring the holy items of the church and the adjacent Parish and Cultural Center began. Parishioners of the Dormition of the Theotokos, assisted by believers who came with their clergy from the parishes of Seoul, Busan, and Ulsan, worked very hard all day to complete the difficult task of transporting all the materials.
After the completion of the project, the bells were rung for the first time, and after that, the Metropolitan of Korea with the Dean of the church, Fr. Hilarion Jeong, and the visiting clergymen, Fr. Alexandros Han, Fr. Romanos Kavchak, Fr. Christopher Moore, and Deacon Yohan Park they performed the Blessing of the Water so that the church will be ready to perform the first Divine Liturgy ever on Sunday, May 15.
The official Opening Ceremony of the church will take place later when all necessary preparations have been completed.
With feelings of praise and infinite gratitude to the Risen Lord and the Most Holy Theotokos, everyone returned to their homes after a very tiring but so joyful day.
