The Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Ukraine, Bishop Mikhail (Anishenko) of Koman performed on Sunday, August 1, 2021, a Divine Liturgy in the main church of the Stavropigio of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Kyiv – the Church of St. Andrew.
The hieromonk Theodosios (Liahovich) from the Monastery of St. Michael and the hieromonk Vikentios (Kozak) from the monastery of Nektarios Aiginitis of the Diocese of Periaslav of the Ukrainian Church officiated as well the Divine Liturgy. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the occasion of honoring the memory of the Holy Fathers of the Six Ecumenical Councils.
The doors of this beautiful and historic temple were opened to the faithful for the first time in many years.
This is the first service held after the signing of the agreement with the national museum complex “Sophia of Kyiv” for the unpaid continuous use of the Church of St. Andrew by the representatives of the Stavropigio of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Ukraine.
The Holy Temple remains the property of the state of Ukraine, while the museum – “Holy Temple of St. Andrew”, which belongs to the national museum complex “Sophia of Kyiv”, continues its activities in parallel with the operation of the Stavropigio.
In his sermon, Bishop Michael referred to the importance of prayer for other people while -among other things- he called on the faithful to develop the talents that God has given them.
“The Lord has given us all unique talents and we are obliged to develop them, not to envy the fact that someone has something we want and do not have. Every human being is unique, he just needs to understand what the Lord has given him and develop it. Because envy reduces and destroys love between people and destroys virtues”, said, among other things, the Bishop of Koman during his sermon.
