Today, December 26, the faithful gather together at the church and perform the Divine Liturgy in order to honour the Theotokos and to celebrate Christmas.
On the second day of the feast, the Church points to the Theotokos as the one through whom the Incarnation was made possible. Therefore, it is a day of honour of the Theotokos, who fulfilled God’s will for the salvation of the humankind.
Ever-Virgin Mary gave birth to one who was God the Son. Jesus was not born of human decision but He was born of God. For this reason, Virgin Mary’s perpetual virginity, before, during, and after the birth of Jesus, is very important. In addition, according to Orthodox Christology, honouring the Mother of Jesus means that the Son of God became also a man, unlike what a group of heretics, the Docetists, were saying.
