The Church commemorates Hieromartyr Paphnutius of Jerusalem, Saint Theodore, and Martyrs Philippa, Dioscorus, Socrates, and Dionysius.
Hieromartyr Paphnutius lived under the reign of the Empire of Diocletian (284-305 AD), was tortured, and was imprisoned.
There, he met 40 notables, who were incarcerated because they were delaying paying the taxes in the public sector, and taught them the Holy Gospel. When the perfect Arrian learned this, he burned them all alive, but Saint Paphnutius miraculously disappeared.
He later presented himself to Arrian, who ordered that he be dismembered. When Arrian went to see him dead and his body dismembered, the parts of the body were united by the grace of the Holy Spirit, and Saint Paphnutius appeared alive before him.
Thanks to the miraculous God’s sign, a battalion of soldiers came to believe in Christ. Saint Paphnutius, however, reposed in the Lord by crucifixion, imitating the Crucified Jesus Christ.
