A new video from the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuți shows the impressive plans for the future Skete of Elders Cleopa (Ilie) and Paisie (Olaru).
Both of these great 20th-century ascetics are among those who will be canonized by the Romanian Holy Synod in 2025, to mark the 140th anniversary of autocephaly and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Patriarchate in 2025.
The hermitage is being built on the site in Stânisoara Mountains where Elder Cleopa laboured in asceticism for nearly 10 years in the 1950s, concealing himself from the communist regime. In December, his mountain cell there, restored in 2015, was solemnly consecrated on the anniversary of his repose.
The construction project was announced during the Diocesan Council on February 18, when Archimandrite Ștefan Gușă was elected abbot of the future monastic settlement.
The skete will be erected “with a desire to mark these memorable days for the spirituality of the Romanian people, but, above all, to properly prepare the long-awaited moment of the canonization of these venerable elders,” representatives of the Archdiocese of Suceava said.
Late last month, Elders Cleopa and Paisie were officially named the patrons of the new residential building at Coșula Monastery in Western Moldavia.
