Serbian Patriarchate refuted the rumors that came to light a few hours ago regarding the health condition of Patriarch Irinej.

In a new statement the Patriarchate informs that in the morning of 19 November 2020 the general health condition of His  Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, has deteriorated as the consequence of COVID 19

“The standing team of medical experts along with the physicians from the Russian Federation has examined His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej and analysed the results of laboratory testing executed this morning and concluded that the morning health deterioration is the consequence of COVID 19 infection and that the general health condition of His Holiness is complex, but stable.

The public shall be further informed of the health condition of His Holiness.”

Patriarch Irinej of Serbia is being treated at the Military Covid Hospital “Karaburma” since November 5, and there is a daily update about the course of his health from the Patriarchate of Serbia.

An announcement was issued earlier today emphasizing the deterioration of Patriarch’s health.

Shortly afterwards, the rumor spread that the Serbian Patriarch had fallen asleep in the Lord, something that the Patriarchate hastened to refute with an official announcement.

The announcement emphasized that “on the occasion of the false news regarding the alleged repose of His Holiness, we inform that the health condition of Patriarch Irinej of Serbia remains unchanged from the latest announcement that has been issued”.

In fact, the Patriarchate called on all the faithful to pray for the health of Patriarch Irinej and urged them to be informed about Patriarch’s state of health by the official announcements of the medical council and the official website of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
