Saint Porphyrios of Kafsokalivia: What do we mean, when we say, “God is watching you”?

Saint Porphyrios of Kafsokalivia: What do we mean, when we say, “God is watching you”?

We have such powers that we can affect our environment in a good or bad manner.

These are very sensitive issues. It takes a lot of attention.

We must see everything in a good way. We must not think bad thoughts about the others. Just one glance or one sigh can affect our fellow human beings.

And a little bit of indignation can be harmful. We must have goodness and love in our heart to transmit them.

Be careful not to be angry with the people who are harming you; only to pray for them with love.

Whatever our fellow man does, never think bad about him. Always pray with love. Always think about the good.

We should never think of the others that God will give them some evil or that He will punish them for their sins.

This thought brings a great deal of harm, without us being aware of it.

Many times we get angry and say to the other: “You are not afraid of the righteousness of God, not afraid he will punish you?”

Sometimes we say, “God can not punish you for what you have done” or “God, do not harm this man for what he did to me” or “Do not do let him suffer.”

In all these cases, we want very much the other to be punished.

Instead of confessing our anger due to his mistake, we show differently our indignation and, supposedly, we pray to God for him.

So, in fact, we are cursing our brother.

And if we say, “God will punish you for the harm you did to me”, and then again we pray to God to punish him rather than to forgive him.

Even when we say, “God is watching you,” our soul acts in a mysterious way that it affects the soul of our fellow man and he gets hurt.

So you understand how our bad thoughts, our bad mood affects others?

That is why we must also find the way to clear the depth of inner selves from all evil.

When our soul is holy, it radiates good. Then we silently send our love without a word.

Christ never wants the evil. On the contrary, he implores: “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…”.
